BIMI lets a domain show its logo next to its emails in supporting inboxes, such as Gmail, Yahoo and Apple Mail. The logo comes from a TXT record published at default._bimi.yourdomain.com.
What it needs
- A DMARC policy of
quarantineorrejecton the domain. A policy ofnoneisn't enough. - The logo as an SVG file in a strict format called SVG Tiny PS, hosted over HTTPS.
- For Gmail and Apple Mail, a paid mark certificate (a VMC or CMC) that proves you own the logo.
What it looks like
v=BIMI1; l=https://yourdomain.com/logo.svg; a=https://yourdomain.com/vmc.pem. The l tag points to the logo and the a tag to the certificate.
Is it worth it for cold email?
Rarely. BIMI rewards an established brand domain with strict DMARC; it doesn't make cold email land in the inbox. Cold email usually goes out from separate sending domains, where the certificate cost isn't worth it. Get SPF, DKIM and DMARC right first.
