Click tracking

Rewriting the links in an email so each click is recorded before the reader reaches the page.

Click tracking records when someone clicks a link in an email. The sending tool replaces each link with one that points to its own tracking server, which logs the click and sends the reader on to the real page.

The trade-off in cold email

  • Deliverability: filters see a link to a tracking domain instead of your website. On a shared tracking domain that can hurt; a custom tracking domain reduces the risk.
  • Trust: a reader who hovers over the link sees an address they don't recognise.
  • Accuracy: company security systems often "click" every link to scan it, so some clicks aren't people.

When it's worth it

When a link is the point of the email, such as a booking page or a case study, and you want to know who used it. For a first cold email, many senders leave links out entirely, ask a question and judge by replies. In mailzy click tracking is off by default.
